X Chromosome
This is a distinctive chromosome named for its appearance under the microscope, which carries information directing the development of sexual characteristics. In women, the X Chromosome is paired with another, similarly structured X chromosome, but in men it is paired with a smaller, truncated chromosome known as a Y chromosome.
