Skinner Box

B F Skinner developed this device for investigating Operant conditioning under tightly controlled conditions.  The basic Skinner Box consisted of a lever, food delivery chute, and a signal light.   When a rat pressed the lever a food pellet was delivered.  The food pellet reinforces the rat to press the lever again and this results in the learning of lever pressing as a means of obtaining food.
Skinner employed Behaviour Shaping as a way of getting the rat to initially press the lever.

Skinner was able to use the light as an example of a discriminatory stimulus.
The Skinner Box was also set up to demonstrate Reinforcement schedules.
