Secondary Reinforcement

In Operant conditioning this refers to something which reinforces a Behaviour because it has been previously associated with a primary reinforcer.  A primary reinforcer is something which satisfies a basic instinct such as food.  For example in a Skinner Box if a click is sounded each time a rat receives a food pellet for pressing a lever the click may become the reinforcer.
