Superego

According to Freud, the Superego is the part of the Personality structure which acts as a conscience.  This third part of the Personality is formed in early childhood and is an internalisation of the parent’s rules.  It is not quite the same as an adult conscience as it consists of the parents rules which may be more severe and intolerant than the adult conscience.
